Variety confirms Sam Caflin as first choice for Finnick, reveals frontrunner names for Mags & Beetee

This morning a source reported that Sam Claflin has been chosen by Lionsgate to play victor Finnick Odair in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Well now a more reliable source, Variety, is confirming that Claflin is the first choice for the role.
With two blockbusters under his belt, Brit thesp Sam Claflin looks to be lining up one more, as sources tell Variety that the Snow White and the Huntsman star is the choice to play Finnick Odair in Lionsgate’s sequel The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
Variety has not only confirmed Sam as Finnick frontrunner but has also given names that are being seriously considered for the roles of Mags and Beetee: Melissa Leo and Tony Shalhoub, respectevely.
Additionally, sources say that Oscar winner Melissa Leo and three-time Emmy winner Tony Shalhoub are the frontrunners to play Mags and Beetee, respectively. Regardless of the status of their potential involvement, Claflin, Leo and Shalhoub are all on the studio’s shortlist for roles in the highly-anticipated sequel.
Catching Fire casting is now in full force, with two actors already confirmed by Lionsgate (Philip Seymour Hoffman for Plutarch and Amanda Plummer for Wiress). We expect for announcements soon.
