TNT Nabs Network TV Rights to the ‘Hunger Games’ Franchise
TNT announced this morning that they have secured network TV rights to air all 4 movies in the Hunger Games franchise. The first film will premiere on the channel in winter 2015.
The acquisition includes the network premiere windows for the yet-to-be-released The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 and The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2. The deal between Lionsgate and TNT also sells the rights to broadcast the films in the Divergent series.
The Hunger Games is scheduled to air on TNT for the first time in winter 2015, adding the second installment, Catching Fire, in winter 2016. Mockingjay – Part 1 will come in 2017, and in 2018 TNT will be able to air all four films in the Hunger Games series concurrently.
“The Hunger Games and Divergent franchises fit perfectly within TNT’s brand evolution and expansion into action-packed genre programming,” said Michael Wright, President, Head of Programming for TNT. “The movies in these franchises are ideal for drawing young adults to the network. We look forward to making these movies the kind of event programming that will engage and excite fans for years to come.”
Because we can never have enough of them, we look forward to catching the films on TV!
