Finnick casting update: Taylor Kitsch out of competition, Garrett Hedlund a frontrunner?

It seems like the casting of fan favorite Finnick Odair is in full swing now. Since E! Online reported that Armie Hammer, Taylor Kitsch and Garrett Hedlund were on the run for the role, there have been tons of reports regarding the casting of District 4‘s victor. Hours after E! Online‘s report, Zap2It denied the information and stated there where still many actors being considered. In a recent article from HollywoodLife, though, we are told that the list has been shortened and the fight is only between Kitsch and Hedlund. HollywoodLife‘s source was quoted saying “The filmmakers aren’t scared of Taylor’s recent struggles with his movies, and he currently has the edge in gaining the role. They feel he needs the right role and this could be it.“, but the attention is also set on Hedlund and his recently-premiered movie On the Road. “The filmmakers are eager to see ‘On the Road’ and see how it does, because if it’s a hit and Garrett gets some major buzz from it, then they will give him more of the edge.”
And as if the reports weren’t yet conflicting enough, LA Times contacted Taylor Kitsch; when asked about the possibility of him playing Finnick Odair, the actor said it is “Not going to happen.” So, until now, there’s nothing else to do besides what we’ve been doing: waiting.
